What are some of your main goals within the game over the next 5 years?
Well to start it off my main goal is to continue to work hard to become the caliber of player to play in the junior hockey landscape. As well as getting an idea of what it takes to make it to and stay at that level I don’t have anything completely set in stone but I do know that I want to play the sport that I love for as long as I can. My big goal would be to play hockey all the way up to college or university, but for me it’s more about playing the sport that I love and to see where it takes me and what kind of people I can meet along the way.
Why are these your goals? Why are they important to you? What would it mean to achieve them?
These are my goals because hockey has always been my dream. I have loved the sport ever since I can remember. The speed and environment of the game is like nothing else. I have experienced the kind of thrill and happiness I feel every single time I step out on the ice. I also feel as though I owe it to my parents to work as hard as I can for them as a thank for for all the time effort and money that they have put into the sport to get me where I am today.
What separates you as a player and person? What are some areas requiring work? How do you continue to get better?
I think my biggest asset as a player is my size and physicality. I think that I use it all over the ice to gain puck possession and protect the puck, as well as using my size to hit other players off the puck and make their job less fun for them. Off the ice I would say my morals and charisma. I think that morals are the most important thing a man can have because without them what we really do have, I am also a big people person, I love meeting and getting to know new people with different experiences and from all different walks of life.
What do you bring to any team you play for? What could a coach expect from you if they selected you for their roster?
I believe that I bring much more than just my hockey ability along with the compete and drive that I will bring. I pride myself on being a good person, and a better teammate coming with positivity to the rink. I thrive on getting my teammates and others up and on the same page, but most of all I bring energy. I am a very loud person and it gets me excited to see others hyped up and ready to go, especially those that are side by side with me.
What impact are you looking to have in your sports career? (Community, team, success, etc)
The impact I want to have on my team is I want to be the guy that brings energy and hard work to any team that gives me an opportunity. I will wear the jersey with pride and put my full effort into everything that I do. For my community hockey has given me everything, it has molded me into the person that I am today. I want to give that back to the younger generation and inspire them to play the game and chase whatever dreams they may have. For me it’s more important for my teammates and people that I meet in the hockey world to remember me as a good teammate and a guy they liked to be around rather than be the best hockey player around.
What do you believe separates the best players in the world? What attributes/intangibles define them?
What separates the best players in the world is a combination of a very large amount of things, but with a little bit of a closer look it’s not just the skill that they have, it’s the way they think the game, the speed and perfection that they think at. But even more important is work ethic and dedication to the sport you have to love the game. Those guys have spent most of their lives perfecting their craft and getting an understanding of how to make the best version of themselves.
Favorite thing about the game (on or off ice)?
For me it would be without a doubt the people I have met and the friends I have made. I believe that I have made friendships from hockey that will last me many years into adulthood. Hockey is a very small world. It is so cool as you go along and grow up to see guys you have played against end up on your team and become your buddy or past teammates turn into rivals.
