What are some of your main goals within the game over the next 5 years?
A few goals of mine within the game over the next five years would be to commit to a university in the CanWest league, get into a good program in school, and continue to develop and grow as a person and as a player, on and off the ice. I would really love to stay involved with the hockey community, continue to help and motivate the younger generation of female athletes, and help them navigate their way through the elite hockey stream.
Why are these your goals? Why are they important to you? What would it mean to achieve them?
These are my goals because I have always wanted to go to university to study to be able to find a good career, but staying involved with the hockey community is also very important to me. I feel that hockey has given me so much and brought so much light and motivation to me and I hope I can continue to give back to the hockey community and positively impact peoples experiences. Achieving these goals would mean a lot to me, I want to prove to myself and others how much hard work really does pay off.
What separates you as a player and person? What are some areas requiring work? How do you continue to get better?
I believe I am a well rounded player that can compete in any area of the ice, I am 100% committed to my team and my coaching staff. I am able to be present in other aspects of my life such as school and my academics, my family, and giving back to the community. Sometimes, I could use some work on my time management and finding ways to complete my tasks without the added stress. On ice, I know I always have room for improvement and I am always willing to do what it takes to keep moving forward with my development. I continue to get better by simply doing it because I love it. I enjoy pushing myself out of my comfort zone and I appreciate the feeling of competetiveness and the challenge it brings to my life.
What do you bring to any team you play for? What could a coach expect from you if they selected you for their roster?
I can confidently say that I am always the hardest worker on the ice. I bring physicality and pace to my game, and I am consistently competing for every inch of ice I earn. I am a positive person and someone my teammates can lean on, but I can also push my teammates in a respectful manner. A coach can expect leadership qualities from me as well as the urgency to step into any role my coach asks of me.
What impact are you looking to have in your sports career? (Community, team, success, etc)
I want to be a positive leader and contributor to the teams success in whatever role I am asked to fill. And I want to continue to motivate younger athletes and prove that hard work pays off.
What do you believe separates the best players in the world? What attributes/intangibles define them?
I believe that drive and patience are two significant and definitive factors that separates the best players in the world. I think you have to be okay with being uncomfortable and at times and not be afraid of challenge. To be able to recognize nothing is going to change overnight, and to trust the process and that your hard work will pay off.
Favorite thing about the game (on or off ice)?
My favourite things about hockey are the sense of calm I get while being on the ice and being surrounded by so much support from my teammates, family, and coaching staff. I love all the memories I get to make with my teammates and the feeling of support the hockey community has to offer.
