What are some of your main goals within the game over the next 5 years?
It is always my goal to play at the highest level of hockey and to push myself mentally and physically so that I am always competitive. I would like to play hockey at the university level and beyond; I plan to take Business in post-secondary and pursue a career as a business owner and leader.
Why are these your goals? Why are they important to you? What would it mean to achieve them?
I would love to play hockey in the NCAA, as it provides excellent opportunities to expand my play and get an education at the same time. It would be amazing to play in the NCAA and work with elite athletes and coaches.
What separates you as a player and person? What are some areas requiring work? How do you continue to get better?
My high hockey IQ, coachability, and determination help me separate myself from other players. In my off-season, I train 4-5 times a week on strength and cardio; I know that the work I do as an athlete in my off-season has an impact on my athletic performance and I work hard on becoming stronger and faster than I was last year.
What do you bring to any team you play for? What could a coach expect from you if they selected you for their roster?
I pride myself on being the hardest-working player on the ice. I am coachable and always willing to take feedback and use it to improve my game. I’ve had the opportunity to be the captain of my team for several years, and this year to be an assistant captain. These opportunities are important as they are leadership skills that will take me far in life.
What impact are you looking to have in your sports career? (Community, team, success, etc)
I believe that hockey provides leadership opportunities both in the community and on the ice. I want to lead by example and help set both my team and the community up for success.
What do you believe separates the best players in the world? What attributes/intangibles define them?
Skill and speed are important factors in hockey, however, high hockey IQ, coachability and determination are skills that elite players need to have to compete at a high level and create that separation from everyone else.
Favorite thing about the game (on or off ice)?
I loved watching hockey and playing mini sticks as a kid and when I was 6 years old, I made my dad teach me how to skate and I fell in love with playing hockey. There are many things I love about this game. I love the competitive nature of hockey, the physicality and the creativity that hockey brings. I love the speed of the game. I love the comradery of playing a team sport, where everyone is focused on the same goal – winning games.
