What are some of your main goals within the game over the next 5 years?
- Earn an Athletic Scholarship from a NCAA D1 program
- Win a League Championship
- Achieve 0.8 PPG Career Total
- Win Defenseman of the Year
Why are these your goals? Why are they important to you? What would it mean to achieve them?
I set these goals because they fit within the spectrum of how I play the game of hockey. I believe these goals are Ultra Challenging, but attainable. I know with good choices my extreme work ethic, and my professional character I will be able to achieve all 4 goals I’ve made. When I complete these goals I will feel beyond proud of myself and the teams I have been on, grateful for every moment along the way. I will be encouraged by my ability to chase success and continue down the same paths I had found those achievements on.
What separates you as a player and person? What are some areas requiring work? How do you continue to get better?
What separates me as a player on the ice is my dedication to getting better each day, going out early, and staying late. Pursuing the best version of myself whenever my skates are on. Off the ice the way my parents have raised me to always treat people with respect and be selfless, making sure I lift other people up before taking care of myself, which I think helps me be a great teammate.
I think I need to spend more time working on my mental game. anyone can stick handle by themselves or put the puck exactly where they want it in practice. But when you’re under pressure and there are countless things affecting how you play during a game, your ability to shut out the negative and focus on the fundamental movements you need to perform, will set you apart from the average player in any league. I continue to work on that through repetition in practice, putting in quality reps, watching video, and visualization.
What do you bring to any team you play for? What could a coach expect from you if they selected you for their roster?
I bring the complete package of a smooth skating big defenseman, offensive and defensive upside, playmaking ability, physicality, and willingness to block shots. I could be expected to have outstanding work ethic, and be coachable in every aspect of the game, hungry to learn and grow my sense for the game.
What impact are you looking to have in your sports career? (Community, team, success, etc)
In my career I hope to have an impact in the community by bringing more people to the sport, and showing outsiders what a treat it is to play hockey, and how greatly it benefits your life. I hope to win a few championships, as a player/coach/manager.
What do you believe separates the best players in the world? What attributes/intangibles define them?
The mental game is what separates the outstanding few. Anyone can stick handle by themselves or put the puck exactly where they want it in practice. But when you’re under pressure and there are countless things affecting how you play during a game, your ability to shut out the negative and focus on the fundamental movements you need to perform, will set you apart from the average player in any league.
Favorite thing about the game (on or off ice)?
My favourite thing about hockey is scoring goals, there is no better feeling in the world. I’m the happiest guy you’ll ever see after I put a puck in the net.
