What are some of your main goals within the game over the next 5 years?
My main goals within hockey for the next five years. The biggest goal I have for myself in hockey that I would like to achieve within the next five years is that I want to improve my skill and seek interest from junior and college/university teams. I would like to have my education paid for whether that’s with an education scholarship or an athletic scholarship. A more short term goal that I would like to achieve is to make the U18 AAA team in Red Deer for the 2023-2024 season. After my minor hockey career is over I want to play Junior Hockey and work on receiving a scholarship.
Why are these your goals? Why are they important to you? What would it mean to achieve them?
These are my goals because I feel that these are things that I can achieve within the next 2-5 years. These goals are important to me because it gives me motivation and a reason to work hard everyday and try to be the best version of myself. Without these goals I would have nothing to work for or achieve with the game of hockey. To achieve these goals would mean a lot to me and not only me but my parents, we’ve both put a lot of time and effort into the game of hockey and if I were to achieve these goals it would show me that all my hard work has paid off.
What separates you as a player and person? What are some areas requiring work? How do you continue to get better?
Things that separate me as a player and person, as a player I am very versatile and can play many different positions at any given time. I am poised with the puck and make plays very well. I am good on both sides of the puck and play a full 200ft game. I am physical and don’t mind getting in the corners and doing the dirty work. I have a good hockey IQ and I am also a strong leader. Areas that I would like to improve at are my speed with and without the puck, my awareness although it is decent I feel that it could still use some work, my execution, edge work, release and shooting through or around screens. As a person I am respectful to everyone and never put anyone down or harm anyone and I do fairly well in school. I could improve by being more involved in the community and being a better role model for younger kids who look up to me. I can continue to get better by really keying into my weaknesses and focusing on them in practice and eventually adding them into my game play.
What do you bring to any team you play for? What could a coach expect from you if they selected you for their roster?
What I can bring to a team, I bring a team a good leader who can play many different positions and can play well at these positions, a player that can kill penalties but also generate offense on the power play, a player that is poised and smart with the puck and that can make plays to generate chances for his team, a player that has skill but is also willing do get in the dirty areas and do the hard work.
What impact are you looking to have in your sports career? (Community, team, success, etc)
The impact that I would like to have with my hockey career is to leave a good reputation in my community.
What do you believe separates the best players in the world? What attributes/intangibles define them?
Things that separate the best players in the world are by far work ethic and attitude. Work ethic and attitude are the two things that can’t be taught. Obviously skill is super important in being a good player but if you’re lazy and don’t want to be coachable or work hard during a workout or practice you will never go far in hockey or even life.
Favorite thing about the game (on or off ice)?
My favorite thing about the game is meeting new people and forming connections.
