What are some of your main goals within the game over the next 5 years?
My main goal in the next five years is to continue to improve every aspect of my game. I want to continue to develop in order to play U18 AAA or Prep and continue to Junior A hockey. Ultimately, I would like to be able to use Junior A hockey as a steppingstone to NCAA Div 1.
Why are these your goals? Why are they important to you? What would it mean to achieve them?
I believe that my continued progression in hockey is a fundamental tool in making me the best person I can be. Hockey teaches teamwork, communication, comradery, the ability to overcome adversity, and develops lifelong friendships. These are all important skills needed in life as one matures. As a student athlete hockey has been a motivator for me to achieve success in school and on the ice, and I want that to continue as my hockey career progresses.
What separates you as a player and person? What are some areas requiring work? How do you continue to get better?
As a player and a person, I am motivated to achieve success, I don’t believe in spending time in areas that don’t help improve myself or my game. My work ethic is exceptional, and I have been told this on many occasions by coaches, general managers, teaches, mentors, and peers. No one is perfect and everyone needs to improve in some aspect of their life or their game. With the support of my parents, I use mentors and coaches to improve my academics and my hockey skills. My parents have been extremely supportive, providing me assets I need to achieve success. I am grateful and lucky they support me the way that they do.
What do you bring to any team you play for? What could a coach expect from you if they selected you for their roster?
For every team I play for I bring an exceptional work ethic that demonstrates leadership both on and off the ice. My forechecking and tenacity draws penalties providing offensive opportunities for my team in the way of power plays. I have a positive attitude and support my teammates. I come prepared to play for every game and prepared to perform for every practice. I put my teammates and the team above myself.
What impact are you looking to have in your sports career? (Community, team, success, etc)
I want to have success both on and off the ice as a skilled, talented player, and as an individual who has success in all other aspects of my like academics, personal relationships, and doing things to help the community and those less fortunate.
What do you believe separates the best players in the world? What attributes/intangibles define them?
Obviously, an individual’s skill level elevates the best players in the world to where they are, but it is also the other aspects not seen on the ice that makes them great. Their ability to work in the community, support those less fortunate, and bring attention to important issues are key factors in making them exceptional.
Favorite thing about the game (on or off ice)?
The greatest thing about the game on or off the ice is the community and culture that I have been fortunate enough to experience. The hockey community is full of great people and it’s a privilege to be able to interact with them daily. It’s always great to meet new people, learn from them, share their experiences, and develop new friendships.
