What are some of your main goals within the game over the next 5 years?
- To win at least one playoff round in my last year of AAA Midget Hockey.
- To continue to play high level hockey, preferably Junior A hockey.
- To be an important player on whatever Junior A team I am on.
- To play Division 1 College hockey.
Why are these your goals? Why are they important to you? What would it mean to achieve them?
These are my goals because ever since I was a kid I wanted to play high level hockey. I hope to continue to play hockey at a high level for as long as I can while also continuing my education. This is important to me as I have always valued my education and hockey success equally. I believe playing Junior A hockey is the perfect step to then go on into college hockey. Winning at least one playoff round in my last year of midget would also mean a lot to me because because I have worked hard to be a better player this year and it would also be a first for my team in the AEHL, as they have never gotten past the first round.
What separates you as a player and person? What are some areas requiring work? How do you continue to get better?
The thing that separates me as a hockey player and a person is my dedication to the game and my will to win. I will do anything to win and help out my team whether it’s blocking a shot, taking a hit to make a play or going into the dirty areas with someone bigger than me. I am also a very coachable person and will do whatever my coaches ask of me. I continue to get better on and off the ice by showing up to practice or dry land with a positive attitude. My teammates know that they can rely on me if they need some uplifting or positivity. Off the ice I am just as dedicated in my life. I participate in my own dry land training and try to work on the mental side of the game. I also work hard in school to achieve the goals I have set for myself. An area that requires work for me is my ability to stay vocal when my team is down. I can become quiet when my team begins to lose and I am focusing on working and improving my vocal skills to be a better leader. I also am working on my self talk skills off of the ice to help improve my confidence.
What do you bring to any team you play for? What could a coach expect from you if they selected you for their roster?
I bring the commitment to work hard and become a better player for any team that I play for. No one will work harder than me or be a more coachable person. I work hard not only to fight for the puck, but to also have the state of mind to play positionally well including back checking, corner battles and blocking shots. I take feedback from coaching staff seriously and strive to always be better both on and off the ice.
What impact are you looking to have in your sports career? (Community, team, success, etc)
The impact that I am looking to have in my sports career is to be seen as a leader with a positive attitude and someone who worked hard to get where they are. I would like my hometown community to see me as someone that made a career out of the sport that I love while being the most kind and respectful person I can be.
What do you believe separates the best players in the world? What attributes/intangibles define them?
I believe that hard work separates the best players from the rest. The intangibles that define them are their dedication to the sport, resilience and discipline.
Favorite thing about the game (on or off ice)?
My favourite thing about the game of hockey is the relationships that are built between myself and the teammates I play with. When you have a team where everyone has each others back you can accomplish a lot more. No team will ever succeed if everyone is just playing for themselves.
