What are some of your main goals within the game over the next 5 years?
My goals for the next 5 years are to play and thrive at the Jr. A and college or university level. Another goal is to have no regrets at the end of everything I do regarding hockey, from my next 5 seasons to every ice time and training session. I would also like to see significant growth as who I am as a person and build an image for myself that’s true to me not to some of hockey’s cultural aspects.
Why are these your goals? Why are they important to you? What would it mean to achieve them?
I feel I have come a very long way as a hockey player and a person from even 2 years ago which is why I want to prove to myself that anything is possible with the right work ethic. I consider myself a very competitive and driven hockey player. I understand that these achievements will be earned not given, which is another factor that drives me to be the best I can be. When I think of my life hockey is one of the biggest parts of it, while in the midst of other things I do throughout my day I’m always talking about it, thinking about it or getting ready for it and can’t envision my life without it. It would mean the most to achieve these goals for my coaches, everyone else who supported me along the way and most importantly my parents and family who are my number one supporters. In the end I just want to have no regrets knowing my story will stand out because I did absolutely everything I could to achieve these goals.
What separates you as a player and person? What are some areas requiring work? How do you continue to get better?
I believe my personality translates to who I am on the ice . I think my drive, tenacity and competitiveness separate me from other players. I hate losing almost more than anything and am willing to do whatever it takes to win. My personality is very outgoing and energetic which I believe bounces off my teammates and helps create a better culture and environment to play in which leads to success. I attempt to respect all my teammates and coaches and remain humble at all times. As a player I need to learn to not come off as arrogant and just come off as a competitor.
What do you bring to any team you play for? What could a coach expect from you if they selected you for their roster?
As a player I bring energy, Ferociousness and drive on and off the ice this rubs onto my teammates and makes me and them better players. I believe any coach would expect coachability, respect and full effort 100% of the time. I believe my coach would expect me to be a pro on and off the ice not only with my character but also with my good habits. And I would bring a willingness to do whatever it takes to win in any situation.
What impact are you looking to have in your sports career? (Community, team, success, etc)
I would like my story as a hockey player to be a model to younger generations that shows anything is possible when you put in the work. I want my name to be remembered in every encounter I have in a good way and to leave an impact on my teams, communities and everyone I interact with. I would like to be known as a competitor and be known to do whatever it takes to win. I would like to take hockey to the highest level I possibly can and thrive with no regrets on what I could’ve done.
What do you believe separates the best players in the world? What attributes/intangibles define them?
I think being an amazing hockey player comes down to work ethic and habits. The best players in the world are always the ones who have put in the most work their entire lives and at the NHL level the best players do everything possible to become a better hockey player, these habits off the ice translate to them being the best of the best.
Favorite thing about the game (on or off ice)?
I can’t pick a single favorite thing about the game, I have an addiction to the game of hockey. Everything about it gives me goosebumps from the memories in the locker rooms to the dream of scoring an overtime winner or blocking a game saving shot. Every part of hockey pushes me to be the best player and person I can be and makes me never want to see my life without it.
