What are some of your main goals within the game over the next 5 years?
Very simple, I want to continue to improve my game, all aspects, and to play at the highest level I can. The next steps following this year would be to make a Jr A roster, that has been my focus for the last 3 years. I have been fortunate to have been selected as part of the leadership group of the last 3 teams I’ve played for and am always looking to improve that side of my game has well. Beyond Jr, I would like to explore options to possibly play overseas.
Why are these your goals? Why are they important to you? What would it mean to achieve them?
I’m fortunate to have family and family friends who have played hockey at various levels from junior, college and pro. Talking with them I am able to get pretty good insight to what the game can offer, both on and off the ice. Taking the next step is just that, the next step of many and it is important to me to see where the game can take me.
What separates you as a player and person? What are some areas requiring work? How do you continue to get better?
Over my years of playing elite level hockey as well as baseball (3 years in the Okotoks Dawgs program), I have experienced the highs and lows that come with all sports. I use the lows to motivate and to be better My commitment to the process of constantly improving and striving to get to the next level is my greatest strength. I am always looking for ways to improve, over the past couple off seasons I have been attending Danielle Fujita’s pawer skating clinics and have seen tremendous benefits. I am always looking for opportunities like this to help improve my game.
What do you bring to any team you play for? What could a coach expect from you if they selected you for their roster?
I consider myself a very coachable and hard-working athlete, regardless of the sport. I have always given my coaches and team mates my full attention and respect. As mentioned, I have been a part of leadership groups of past and current teams and feel I have the respect of my coaches, teammates and officials. The one thing that I am in total control of is my effort, and pride myself of giving 100% at all times.
What impact are you looking to have in your sports career? (Community, team, success, etc)
Growing up in a small community (2000 people) it is engrained in me to always be looking for ways to give back to my community. If I am able to show the young players that it is possible to reach those higher levels if you put in the hard work and dedicate yourself to the process, I will take advantage of every opportunity to do so. Being part of something bigger than myself, a team, and going through the same highs and lows together. Forming life long bonds and friendships.
What do you believe separates the best players in the world? What attributes/intangibles define them?
Commitment and attention to details, the little things. Never settling, always moving forward.
Favorite thing about the game (on or off ice)?
Being part of a team, the camaraderie.
