What are some of your main goals within the game over the next 5 years?
My main goal over the next 5 years is to play for a Junior A team then move up to the NCAA and play on a Division 1 team. I want to reach my potential in hockey, in academics, and in all aspects of my life.
Why are these your goals? Why are they important to you? What would it mean to achieve them?
I love the game and I want to play it for my whole life, and being given the opportunity to excel and play at a high level for a substantial period of time would mean a lot to me.
What separates you as a player and person? What are some areas requiring work? How do you continue to get better?
I feel that my intelligence and talent for finding solutions quickly to problems is what sets me apart both on and off the ice. Though I am prone to overthinking, I find that when I am relaxed and in a flow state, obstacles seem to shrink away and become irrelevant compared to when I am actively thinking about them. Improvement would mean increasing the consistency of this mental state, and make it unshakable, no matter what happens around me.
What do you bring to any team you play for? What could a coach expect from you if they selected you for their roster?
I bring a calming and confident presence to teams, and I lead by example, both on and off the ice. When needed, I can step up and be a vocal leader, especially when I am comfortable around my teammates.
What impact are you looking to have in your sports career? (Community, team, success, etc)
I hope to have an impact in all aspects as I continue in hockey. I want to be a factor on every team I play for, and I want every team to have success. I want to have personal success and be consistent every time I step on the ice. I also want to pass things on to others; whether that is directly teaching and coaching players younger than me, or being a positive roe model and a success story for people to be inspired by.
What do you believe separates the best players in the world? What attributes/intangibles define them?
I believe an unconditional love and dedication to the game is what separates the best players in the world from all others. The drive to constantly get better, perseverance when things seem to not be improving and some level of confidence and belief in their ability sets them apart an are things that all players should aspire to cultivate in themselves.
Favorite thing about the game (on or off ice)?
My favourite thing about hockey is the fact that it gives you a space where you can constantly be improving upon yourself. Hockey can be a place to learn things about yourself, and can help you find solutions to problems that transfer into other things outside the rink.
