What are some of your main goals within the game over the next 5 years?
My main goals as a hockey player over the next 5 years are to continue working my way up the ranks in the hockey world, as I have been since I could tie my own skates. This upcoming season I will be playing for the Port Coquitlam Trailblazers as one of the few 16-year olds in the PJHL U18. In my 17 year old season I would like to be making a step into the BCHL and from there having a strong and respected year become committed to a NCAA Division 1 school.
Why are these your goals? Why are they important to you? What would it mean to achieve them?
Well as anybody else would say it would a lot and I love to live that lifestyle. But yo me, I feel that there is more to it then just having the status of playing NCAA hockey. For me it is important to achieve these goals because not only would I love to play the highest levels of the game. I also want to be able to set up a future fro myself by gaining an education. Personally, I love to compete and I’m a very competitive person. You could ask my brother and I’m sure he would say the same as we just competed on the golf course a few days ago. My life has been surrounded by hockey for as long as I can remember, and words don’t even describe how much it will mean to me and my family when I get the opportunity to prove that I belong in the NCAA as a student, hockey player and person.
What separates you as a player and person? What are some areas requiring work? How do you continue to get better?
I believe that on and off the ice I can easily separate myself from everyone else with character off the ice in the room as I am very liked, and I contribute lots to the team. On the ice I believe that my confidence with the puck and effort to not just make myself better, but to make my line mates better as well. An area requiring work in my game is size. I can improve this by eating with proper nutrition , training hard in the gym and getting sleep. I will continue to get better by training with my coaches and giving 100% on each rep to ensure that I improve more and more each day.
What do you bring to any team you play for? What could a coach expect from you if they selected you for their roster?
I can bring many things to every team I play for, of course everyone has their off days but, I can take an off day in practice and still learn and improve as a player strictly because of effort along with trusting my coaches and teammates are going to make me a better hockey player. I can also bring a leadership role on any team that I play for because I am not a shy person and I enjoy talking to my teammates and having say in what we do along with being respected and well liked. A coach can expect me to always be a hard worker whether it’s in the classroom, in the gym or on the ice. I love to learn new things and won’t take criticism the wrong way and really appreciate meetings with my coaches and teachers to see where i’m at and what areas there is room for improvement.
What impact are you looking to have in your sports career? (Community, team, success, etc)
The impact I’m looking to have in my sports career is working with my teammates to create success for everyone along with my personal career. I would love to have an impact on the community as well when I’m done playing by coaching kinds and teaching them the game that I love and hoping to start them on a path to higher levels.
What do you believe separates the best players in the world? What attributes/intangibles define them?
I think the best athletes in the world do not fear competition but rather embrace it. They can mentally change situations and use things as motivation rather than giving up. Hard work, a strong mindset, and ownership of your mistakes and the 3 most important things to me when it comes to improving and striving to be the best.
Favorite thing about the game (on or off ice)?
My favourite thing about the game is being able to do what I love every single day and always making new friends along the way. Hockey is my life now and it always has been, I would never change it. I also just love the competition as I’m competitive in everything I do and I am eager to learn new things so getting out on the ice for a few hours every day is awesome and I look forward to the next day of skating more than anything.
