What are some of your main goals within the game over the next 5 years?
My main goal over the next five years is to advance my game to the next level and prove my talents at the NCAA stage where I can face the strongest competition possible while working towards a valuable degree.
Why are these your goals? Why are they important to you? What would it mean to achieve them?
This drive to play at the collegiate level stems from my desire to provide myself with the most possible career options in areas I am passionate about whether it be within a field of study, or on the ice at the professional level.
What separates you as a player and person? What are some areas requiring work? How do you continue to get better?
Both on and off the ice, I separate myself from the competition through my elite-level work ethic and dedication to be the best version of myself. I strive to be consistent in every area of my life. Whether it be showing up with a smile on my face to the rink each day, or consistently making big saves in big moments, for me it all comes down to reliability. I know that if I can rely on myself to put the work in and get better every day as an individual, those efforts will be contagious to those around me helping to pull in the same direction. At the end of the day, it’s you vs you.
What do you bring to any team you play for? What could a coach expect from you if they selected you for their roster?
To any team I am a part of, I cannot guarantee that I will have a perfect performance every day, but I can promise an absolutely perfect effort anytime I am on the ice and in the gym. To me, this means that a coach can expect me to be the hardest working player on the ice and that they do not need to hold me accountable as I am self-motivated in a “lead by example” fashion where I know that the results I get are simply a product of what I put in. Therefore, at the end of the day, my success comes down to how hard I want to work, and how hard I want to push my teammates.
What impact are you looking to have in your sports career? (Community, team, success, etc)
In my team and community, I look to contribute to those who support me and give back in any way I can. At the end of the day, it is about the logo on your chest and how you chose to represent it on the ice, but even more importantly how you represent it away from the rink. When it comes to success, I want to leave a legacy of someone who refused to quit no matter how the odds stacked against them and who ultimately won at any cost.
What do you believe separates the best players in the world? What attributes/intangibles define them?
When it comes to the most elite players in the world, a word that comes to mind instantly is consistency; they bring their best on any given night. That does not mean they are necessarily putting up big points or getting a shutout every day, but rather they find the best way they can contribute to their team’s success in any way they can. At the end of the day, losing is never an option for the best, it’s a do-or-die mentality.
Favorite thing about the game (on or off ice)?
My favourite thing about hockey is its ability to become lost in the art of the sport. Nothing else matters when I am out there except stopping that next shot. From the instant I step foot on the ice, any stress, issue or thought I have just disappeared for the time I am out there and I get to find that ‘zone’.
