What are some of your main goals within the game over the next 5 years?
My main goals in the next 5 years within the game are, first and foremost to play junior hockey at the elite level. Improving my vision in all areas of my game. I plan to improve my strength and agility on and off the ice by working out and fueling my body well. I want to play and be successful at the highest level of my capabilities.
Why are these your goals? Why are they important to you? What would it mean to achieve them?
Being successful in hockey has been my dream since I was very young, and I have never wavered from that. While I have seen others give up and move on from hockey, I have never felt the desire to do so. I have always been a very driven individual and have always wanted to play at the elite level and above my peers. Achieving this goal would be a measurable payoff for all the hard work I’ve put in over the years. It’s important to me to prove to myself and others that I belong in elite hockey, where many have doubted me along the way.
What separates you as a player and person? What are some areas requiring work? How do you continue to get better?
I think what separates me from others is my cool and calm nature on and off the ice, and the high character with which I treat myself and others. I have maintained an excellent reputation among adults and peers alike over the course of my hockey career, and this is very important to me. As a player, I was taller at a young age and have been complimented for my speed in relation to my height. I’m often noticed as a right-handed catcher and for my unique style of play. Something that I need to work on is consistency in my game, excellence at all times. I will continue to get better with good training and seeking out opportunities for improvement and development. I strive to do the little things right every day, both on and off the ice, with consistency.
What do you bring to any team you play for? What could a coach expect from you if they selected you for their roster?
Coaches can expect a goaltender with never-before-seen levels of work ethic and desire to be a part of the system. I always want to be in the big games and want to be “the guy” for the season. I will fight for the starting goaltender every season, no matter the age difference. A coach can expect an everyday goalie wanting to be on the ice at every opportunity. In the room, I am competitive but also like to be goofy and keep things light for the guys when needed.
What impact are you looking to have in your sports career? (Community, team, success, etc)
I like to use my influence and position in elite hockey to encourage younger players to keep working and enjoy their sport. It’s my goal to be one of the big guys that the little guys can look up to, just like I had when I was younger. I enjoy coaching and being part of the community. In playing junior, I would want to be a good ambassador for the team and community to bring people together toward a common cause and unite the community behind sport.
What do you believe separates the best players in the world? What attributes/intangibles define them?
I think the best players put in the everyday work in order to continuously improve their game. They go the extra mile that others do not. They communicate well with their teammates, and it seems everyone has a good relationship with them. Elite players are athletes on and off the ice, built with unmatched strength. The best players have a never-quit growth mindset, always seeking ways to improve their game and know when to press and when to rest.
Favorite thing about the game (on or off ice)?
My favourite thing about hockey is competing to win every game, and getting some cellies along the way. I also love showing up to the rink every day and enjoying stopping pucks. The best seasons are when the guys gel together well and we can support each other on and off the ice.
