What are some of your main goals within the game over the next 5 years?
My main goals in hockey over the next 5 years are to play at the NCAA D1 level, win the Hobey Baker award, and move on to play professionally.
Why are these your goals? Why are they important to you? What would it mean to achieve them?
These goals I have set for myself are important to me because playing Division 1 as well as playing professionally have always been my dream, with the understanding that I will receive an education along the way. Accomplishing these goals would mean living the life I’ve always dreamt of. Winning the Hobey Baker award is a goal of mine and is important to me because my friend, mentor, and goalie coach was the runner up for the award in 2013. Winning the award would be accomplishing what he couldn’t and would mean a lot to me as well as to him.
What separates you as a player and person? What are some areas requiring work? How do you continue to get better?
What separates me as a player and a person is my extensive knowledge of the goaltending position and my ability to self assess and self coach. I believe I have one of the strongest and most layered mental games at the current level I am playing at, which truly sets me apart from my competition. In my opinion, I have all the physical tools. I continue to get better each day by consistently working on every aspect of my game whether that be on or off ice, never being satisfied and always enjoying it.
What do you bring to any team you play for? What could a coach expect from you if they selected you for their roster?
I bring a relentless competitor in both practice and games, a hard worker with a great work ethic to any team I am on. Coaches can expect me to bring the ability to make any save in any situation, the ability to steal a game. They can also expect a goalie with great positive body language, who doesn’t get rattled, who brings a sense of confidence, an overall calm, relaxed demeanor in net, and a great teammate and locker room presence.
What impact are you looking to have in your sports career? (Community, team, success, etc)
The impact I’m looking to have in my sports career is to give my team a chance to win as consistently as possible. I’m also looking to leave an impact on the kids I coach and hopefully be an inspiration to them as well as others in my hometown (Prince Albert, SK).
What do you believe separates the best players in the world? What attributes/intangibles define them?
I believe the best players in the world separate themselves by having an unmatched work ethic and competitiveness, a powerful mental game, and the ability and willpower to push themselves to their limit.
Favorite thing about the game (on or off ice)?
My favorite thing about the game is making a huge save when my team needs it most, and that being a reason my team wins. I also enjoy the mental side of the game, whether that be the pre game preparation or maintaining that mental state during the course of the game.
