What are some of your main goals within the game over the next 5 years?
Next year I want to play U18. Then after a good season with U18, I hope to play Junior or WHL. I would like to be a leader(both on and off the ice) on my team next year as I have really enjoyed being an assistant captain this year with my U17 team. I would also like to improve the offensive part of my game without sacrificing turnovers and my reputation for being a reliable defensive partner.
Why are these your goals? Why are they important to you? What would it mean to achieve them?
U18 then either Junior or WHL are important as those are the next stepping stones to developing my game. I enjoy being a leader and am looked up to by my teammates through working hard on and off the ice. Talking the talk as well as walking the walk. By respecting my teammates and understanding and knowing that each teammate will be different and accepting and understanding how to deal with circumstances and situations. These goals are important to me as they will round out my game to be an all-around defenseman. I think these are important and they will define me as a hardnosed defenseman that other teams do not enjoy playing against.
What separates you as a player and person? What are some areas requiring work? How do you continue to get better?
As a person, I need to work on carrying on a conversation and being less shy and being more confident. I can get better at this by being talkative to strangers. As a player, I think I can improve my shot and improve my offensive play with and without the puck. To improve my shot I can shoot pucks every day. And to improve my offensive play with and without the puck. I can watch videos with my coaches and watch NHL games.
What do you bring to any team you play for? What could a coach expect from you if they selected you for their roster?
I think I bring to every team positivity on and off the ice. I also bring physicality to every team and good defensive zone play. A coach would expect me to come to practice every 110%. And would expect me to be a very low turnover player that makes breakout passes and can join the rush.
What impact are you looking to have in your sports career? (Community, team, success, etc)
In my sports career, I am looking to play high-level hockey and would want it to be my job. I would also like to make long-lasting buddies.
What do you believe separates the best players in the world? What attributes/intangibles define them?
I think work ethic is a big one and if a player doesn’t have it they won’t get better they will just stay the same.
Favorite thing about the game (on or off ice)?
On the ice, my favourite thing is practicing and getting better every day.
