What are some of your main goals within the game over the next 5 years?
Over the next few years, I want to play post-secondary hockey at the highest level I am able to. I want to attend all provincial camps available to me and make Team Saskatchewan each year I’m eligible.
Why are these your goals? Why are they important to you? What would it mean to achieve them?
This goal is important to me because I want to play hockey while I’m able to get an education for my future. To achieve this goal would mean for me to commit to a school and team where I would be able to play the highest level of hockey I can.
What separates you as a player and person? What are some areas requiring work? How do you continue to get better?
What separates me from other players is my competitiveness and constant desire to improve those around me. I always work my hardest in hopes that those around me will follow and be able to improve to their best versions. I am not afraid to do what it takes to succeed. For me, I need to work on letting my emotions get involved in how I deal with things both during and after games. This is something that I constantly push myself to adjust, while still keeping the passion I have during games. As a leader, I want to work on more positive ways that I can motivate others and help everyone be at their best.
What do you bring to any team you play for? What could a coach expect from you if they selected you for their roster?
Coaches can expect a vocal leader who is willing to do anything for the team’s success. I bring a hard work ethic and am an ambitious athlete always wanting to get better. Whether it be staying a few minutes after practice, watching extra film or doing game review with coaches.
What impact are you looking to have in your sports career? (Community, team, success, etc)
I am looking to be part of a successful program each year. I want to give as much back to the community as I can. This could include helping with younger teams practices, hosting fundraisers for various causes, etc. I want to be able to play a good amount of minutes on a team where both the team and I can be successful.
What do you believe separates the best players in the world? What attributes/intangibles define them?
The best players in the world have a high hockey IQ. They can all shoot, skate and stick handle well enough to be in the highest leagues, but the very best ones know the game better than the rest. They know where their teammates are going to be and they know where to go to get the best scoring opportunities, or they see where the puck will be when they get there. Aside from that, the best hockey players have the drive and determination to be the best. As much as they’re “gifted” with skill, they must work harder than anyone else to develop those skills to become the best. They always compete to the best of their ability and never back down.
Favorite thing about the game (on or off ice)?
My favorite part of the game is always competing. Whether it’s a friendly competition in practice or a cut-throat match with our biggest rivals. I love constantly learning about the game and about my teammates and even about myself. I love the feeling of making a good pass for a teammate to score, and celebrating just as much as if I scored it. I love the thrill and the excitement of a big game and the pressure of needing to score, or needing to kill a big penalty.
