What are some of your main goals within the game over the next 5 years?
Some of my main goals within the game over the next five years include playing my Junior career at the highest possible level, and ultimately committing to a college where I can continue to improve my on-ice performance all while pursuing a degree to better my future in the workplace and life. Playing hockey at the highest level over the next 5 years is my biggest desire, and I am willing to do whatever I have to do to reach these aspirations.
Why are these your goals? Why are they important to you? What would it mean to achieve them?
These are my goals because I have always thought of myself as a competitor, and as someone who doesn’t like being told no. I have always had the dream of playing Junior and college hockey, and I have dedicated so much time to try and make these dreams a reality. These goals are important to me because they have been my dreams since I was a little boy. Like I said earlier, I have never taken someone saying no to me lightly. I have been cut from many teams and told I was not good enough and these stepbacks have only motivated me more. This motivation has allowed me to be the player and most importantly the man I am today. Achieving these goals would mean everything to me. It would show that sacrifice and hard work will always pay off and these values will help me to be successful in the hockey world and life in general.
What separates you as a player and person? What are some areas requiring work? How do you continue to get better?
What separates me as a player and a person is I am not afraid to put myself out there to get better. Any challenge or difficult situation that I may encounter does not scare me. I am willing to go out in the world or on the ice and give it my all. Pushing myself to get better as a man and a player is something that I have always had immense pride in, along with always accepting any challenge presented to me. One area that I could improve on as a hockey player and a person is confidence in myself. Even though I am not afraid of any challenge that I may face, I have always struggled with believing in myself and have tended to second guess myself and that is what I would say is my most necessary area of improvement. I continue to get better in this area by proving myself wrong. Throughout my career and life, I have always always surprised myself with what I have been able to achieve. This has allowed me to gain more confidence, in hockey, school, and life in general.
What do you bring to any team you play for? What could a coach expect from you if they selected you for their roster?
I bring a very hard-working, and selfless demeanor to any team I am a part of. I am willing to do whatever the team needs to be successful, and I am more than willing to step into any role that is necessary to succeed on a personal and team level. If a coach were to select me to be on their roster, they would be able to expect a player who is going to put their head down and do the work. I am willing to earn every opportunity that I get, and I am not afraid of failure or competition. I am well aware of how the hockey world works and I am willing to support the team regardless of how small or large the role my coach gives me is. I am not the type of player to complain if things are not going my way, I am the type of player that will use any drawbacks as motivation to make myself better and to succeed.
What impact are you looking to have in your sports career? (Community, team, success, etc)
The impact that I am looking to have in my sports career goes beyond my success. Growing up in North Carolina, hockey is not a very popular sport. I have always wanted to pave the way for young hockey players in North Carolina and show them that with hard work, sacrifice, and dedication anything is possible that you set your mind to. In a team aspect, I am looking to have a great impact on the ice and in the locker room. I am going to do whatever is necessary to give the team the best opportunity to succeed. I also desire to reach all of my goals in hockey. I am going to do whatever it takes to play Junior A hockey, and ultimately commit to a good University.
What do you believe separates the best players in the world? What attributes/intangibles define them?
It is beyond noticeable that the skill of the best players in the world is what separates them. They are better at all of the skills that are important to be successful in hockey. With that being said, they were able to achieve this great amount of skill because of their drive and work ethic. All of these great players have had the desire to be the best from a young age and they have worked incredibly hard to get to where they are as players today.
Favorite thing about the game (on or off ice)?
My favorite thing about the game is the grind and the brotherhood that comes with hockey. I love coming to the rink and being around my teammates and coaches every day. The continuous drive to succeed and reach a goal with the team and as an individual player is addicting and it fuels my drive and desire to do my absolute best on the ice. Another thing that I love about the game is road trips with the team. This time with my teammates is always lots of fun and allows us to come closer as a team.
