What are some of your main goals within the game over the next 5 years?
My main goals for this season are to improve my gameplay in all aspects, including keeping up good habits during practices, watching gameplay and reviewing it, and training to become stronger. Also being consistent is something that I would like to improve. Another goal of mine is to become the starting goaltender on my team and be one of the top 10 goaltenders in all U17 CSSHL division. Over the next couple of years, I want to be playing for a Jr. A league whether that be BCHL or AJHL or even SJHL. Then I want to be aiming for an athletic or academic scholarship and be playing on an NCAA team. Also, for the team I do play for I want to achieve a great reputation as a goaltender and a teammate. I would also like to start a fundraiser, and give back my community.
Why are these your goals? Why are they important to you? What would it mean to achieve them?
All these goals are very important to me, as the gameplay side of things would make me a better goaltender. if I were to achieve the goals for my upcoming season the would help me meet my other goalie in being one of the top 10 goaltenders, and provide and continue my path towards a jr. league. Being consistent and becoming stronger is a big part of hockey and is extremely important to become an elite hockey goalie. Achieving my goals would mean all of my dedication and hard work has paid off and reflects that I can play at an elite level. and I believe that I can perform at those levels. Creating a fundraiser is meaningful to me, as many people has supported me during my hockey journey.
What separates you as a player and person? What are some areas requiring work? How do you continue to get better?
I am willing to give my best effort to the team I play for. I am a great teammate, friend, and responsible. I am a very competitive person during games, practice, and workouts. I love to push myself and all of my teammates. I am a active listener and can provide leadership when needed. Area of that I want to work on, are being tall in my butterfly and not lowering my body. Also, make sure my feet are set when I either tee-push or shuffle to a angle and not over push. I will continue to get better at these things by focusing on being consistent and showing up physically and mentally everyday.
What do you bring to any team you play for? What could a coach expect from you if they selected you for their roster?
Each team and coach that I play for can expect responsibility, respect and leadership. I have a strong work ethic and I am a competitive person who pushes my teammates to get better. On ice, my teammates and coaches can expect consistency, communication. I am the last line of defense who can make a pass when needed.
What impact are you looking to have in your sports career? (Community, team, success, etc)
I want to make an impact, not just on my team, but in the community as well. I want to start a fundraiser and give it back to the community and to the people who have helped me along my journey to become the person I am today. I want to become a person that people can reach out to or look up to me and share my ability to help and teach other people.
What do you believe separates the best players in the world? What attributes/intangibles define them?
Separating the good from the stars is to believe that there is no such thing as failure, it is just only feedback. Also, being disciplined when no one is watching. Hall of Fame and multiple championship-winning coach John Wooden states, “The true test of a man’s character is what he does when no one is watching.” Good athletes will get up to practice and give it their all, but what about the off season when the coach isn’t there to guide you? That is a big part of who I am that I would love to apply more often to me as a goalie. Also, being able to perform at your best every single day and become noticeable. Overall, the biggest factor in becoming that star is your work ethic and your attitude on and off the ice.
Favorite thing about the game (on or off ice)?
My favorite parts of hockey are, making new friends with my teammates, pushing myself and my team to get better. I love making that save that changes the outcome of the games. As a goalie I enjoy playing in those close intense games that keeps me on my toes though out the game and I like the thrill of the overtime and then winning, and hearing the crowd cheer . Also Creating life long memories that will last forever.
