What are some of your main goals within the game over the next 5 years?
To just be playing the highest level of hockey that I can. To me that looks like pursuing my education at an NCAA Div 1 school.
Why are these your goals? Why are they important to you? What would it mean to achieve them?
These are my goals because they’ve been something that I’ve always dreamed about growing up. As well as being able to somewhat pay back my parents with what they’ve sacrificed for me to get to the point I’m at now. They are important to me because I want to push myself to achieve these goals. It would mean more than anything to achieve these goals. I’d use all of what I learned and eventually bring it back to my community.
What separates you as a player and person? What are some areas requiring work? How do you continue to get better?
I think the main thing that separates me as a player and a person is my leadership abilities. I’m able to work with all kinds of people and earn their respect. I take this to the ice and also in everyday life. Some Areas that I feel I could improve on are my O zone IQ and my skating. I continue to get better by really keeping those goals in mind during practice, games, and video.
What do you bring to any team you play for? What could a coach expect from you if they selected you for their roster?
I bring the aspect of being a good person. I’m always a team first kind of guy who is more than willing to do whatever it takes to win. I do my best to help make myself and my teammates better. On ice I play a very reliable game. I’m the type of person you can put on the ice for the last few seconds of the game when we have the lead. I keep calm and collected and always do my job.
What impact are you looking to have in your sports career? (Community, team, success, etc)
The overall impact I want to have for my sports career is just being able to inspire the next generation of hockey players. I want to be the guy that a kid sees at a jr game and thinks I want to be just like him. Giving back to the community is very important in my frame of view.
What do you believe separates the best players in the world? What attributes/intangibles define them?
I feel the things that separate me from the best players in the world are my work ethic and my attention to the details. Hard work is a part of my game that I really cherish. I simply just believe that hard work will take you a lot further than just talent. I also think that my attention to detail really separates me from others. I ask about the little details to make sure I’m getting the most out of everything I do.
Favorite thing about the game (on or off ice)?
My favorite thing about the game is definitely the relationships I’ve built with people through the game. I have buddies from all over Alberta and even BC all just from getting the opportunity to play with or against them.
