What are some of your main goals within the game over the next 5 years?
Some of my hockey goals over the next 5 years are:
1. I want to play hockey at the highest level that is offered to me. I want to continue to develop both on and off the ice and continue to grow and develop as a player and student. My work and attention to detail will assist in setting myself up for a healthy long-term hockey career.
2. I want to learn as much as I can from the various coaches’ perspectives that I will have over the next 5 years. To take that hockey knowledge and put it in my toolbox, and be able to fall back on it throughout my life.
3. My ultimate goal is to play pro hockey. I also have an interest in playing college hockey over the next 5 years.
Why are these your goals? Why are they important to you? What would it mean to achieve them?
They will help shape my future academically and athletically, which is extremely important to me. I will use all the skills I have learned over the next 5 years throughout my adult life and will help in all my career endeavours. I know I will continue to put the work in to get to the next level which will mean ultimate satisfaction and gratefulness in having the privilege and opportunity to represent my team and community throughout the game of hockey and all its community involvement.
What separates you as a player and person? What are some areas requiring work? How do you continue to get better?
I believe that my work ethic, leadership, and attention to detail to the game separates me tremendously as a person and player from others. As much as I take pride in my hockey competencies, I realize I want to get quicker and stronger. I am doing this through plyometric, strength and agility training with my Trainer – Drew Nichol (Axis Training). This type of training will carry over to the speed and strength needed on the ice.
What do you bring to any team you play for? What could a coach expect from you if they selected you for their roster?
To any team that I have been part of and that I will be part of in the future, I feel that I bring work ethic, speed and physicality. I feel that I have developed into a two-way forward type of player that can be counted on in various areas on the ice. I have excellent hand-eye coordination, which can be measured by my success in the faceoff circle. I feel confident in my hockey abilities and understand the areas that I need to continue to develop. I feel that I am a sponge and am extremely coachable in all areas of the game. I am also a leader on and off the ice.
What impact are you looking to have in your sports career? (Community, team, success, etc)
I’m looking to show others, my family, friends and all my coaches/mentors that my hard work and dedication will pay off. This is important to me to have that impact for others to see as they start this amazing sport. I also look forward to representing my team within the community through various volunteer efforts.
What do you believe separates the best players in the world? What attributes/intangibles define them?
I believe what separates the best players/athletes in the world is work ethic, dedication, grit and pride to play the game they love. These attributes are very important to me because if you do not put the work ethic in and enjoy doing it at the same time, then what is the point of all of it? There are many great successful athletes around the world, and in my mind, all of them enjoy the game they love to play.
Favorite thing about the game (on or off ice)?
Practicing hard, and setting high standards for myself has made me into the player that I am today. The strength, hockey IQ, and fundamentals are a direct result of the work that I have done on and off the ice. I have built new friendships along the way with a lot of different teams and people, also coaches/mentors and parents. I love hockey because it makes me always strive to become better each day. I truly love the sport, because of the healthy competition, quickness of the game and the challenges the game brings.
