What are some of your main goals within the game over the next 5 years?
My ultimate goal five years from now is to advance from a Major Junior team or graduate from an NCAA school with a degree, advancing to a professional hockey league. This ultimate goal is fueled by current goals, all of which have intricate plans. I currently strive to compete at a Junior level, developing my game detail by detail, learning the tools which will contribute to future success. I continue to focus on the pillars of my game, skating/edge work, tracking, and puck play, all of which have many sub-categories and specific details. I further acknowledge the large difference small details contribute, therefore, I am a student of the game, constantly adding tools to my arsenal. This knowledge along with constant on and off ice application and dedication will guide me to future success, allowing me to continue advancing my game day by day.
Why are these your goals? Why are they important to you? What would it mean to achieve them?
Breaking down my long term goals into current goals with plans of achievement provides structure in a way which both supports aiming for great heights in the long run, while allowing me to develop every day. Currently working towards mastering my positioning, using all sources available to constantly learn and piece together my consistent game ultimately fuels my future aspirations. By striving to be 1% better every day, I am always developing myself into a disciplined, consistent, and complete athletic goaltender. My goals, both future and current, ultimately mean everything to me. I am fully committed to the craft which I love. In devoting my all each and every day, I understand the ability which I have to develop as a person and hockey player, unlocking the mindset which I need to keep being the person I want to be. This person is one who is hard working, disciplined, and smart, striving for the highest heights with confidence.
What separates you as a player and person? What are some areas requiring work? How do you continue to get better?
What separates me from the crowd is that I hold myself accountable to a high degree of consistency and discipline, representing my unmatchable work ethic. Many athletes and people of all ages get side tracked from their goals and rely on short term motivation to drive their success. What separates me from this large crowd is my ability to improve myself everyday with no excuses. I am committed to the idea of self improvement and goal advancement everyday. This discipline is what separates me from others, along with my love for learning the game, reasoning my fast rate of development. This concept is one which promotes growth everyday, making myself the strongest athlete both physically and mentally. Ultimately, I am the ultra competitive athlete who
will never give up until success is present and will take advantage of every learning opportunity presented, allowing me to always progress my skills.
I continue to advance my strength in the weight room, as well as continue developing my flexibility through a detailed yoga and flexibility regimen. This, along with the constant development of my on ice abilities, pave the path to my success as a goaltender, for which my disciplined actions and hard work fuels. Planning ahead and then executing large and small details leads to consistent improvement which leads to the consistent goaltender I am.
What do you bring to any team you play for? What could a coach expect from you if they selected you for their roster?
You can expect more than just a goaltender when recruiting me. I strive to be a leader on and off the ice, helping my team to reach their potential and continue striving for greatness. Such greatness comes from hard work and discipline, for which my work ethic and discipline on and off the ice is unmatched. I am one who’s focused on constant improvement, which is obtained through my hard work and study of the game, focusing on intricate details. My detailed and knowledgeable game results in a consistent goaltender who will give their team the opportunity to win every game with an undeniable passion. Furthermore, I bring a positive impact to not only my teammates, but rather the entire community surrounding. I was raised in a family which strongly values good people, for which I strive to be the best person I can be in and out of hockey.
What impact are you looking to have in your sports career? (Community, team, success, etc)
I ultimately want to be a role model for young goaltenders, proving to them that through hard work consistently, you can achieve whatever you set your mind to. I want to be a reminder for everyone to dream big, as with a proper mindset and if one truly wants it badly enough, one’s dreams can become a reality. I ultimately want to guide younger goaltenders to understand the power of a growth mindset, along with the idea that if you truly want something bad enough, you will succeed.
What do you believe separates the best players in the world? What attributes/intangibles define them?
To be a good hockey goalie, one must possess exceptional skill, however in order to be one of the best, one must consistently complete one’s job no matter the circumstance, providing one’s team an opportunity to win each game. One must be able to suppress the “noise,” whether that noise is caused by others or within oneself. Furthermore, the greatest athletes must possess mental fortitude. Two important aspects of mental fortitude include the ability to focus on what’s presented ahead and the ability to remain consistently disciplined. The statement, “Next shot” is one of great importance as it reminds me of the fact that in order to be consistently great, I need to focus on the task ahead, restricting my vision of ideas which circulate. Additionally, I understand the importance of being consistently disciplined as success isn’t instant but rather takes hard work and an unwavering dedication. Overall, I strive to be consistently great, finding a deep passion in such dedication, working towards my goals with each and every opportunity present.
Favorite thing about the game (on or off ice)?
My favorite part of hockey is it is more than just a game. Hockey is a place where I implement all my dedication into physical success. I love that I can push myself and those around me towards betterment. Hockey is a happy and educational environment for me, where everyone works together in unison to achieve a common goal. Additionally, the sport of hockey is special as I can constantly improve my abilities. Hockey teaches me that, “you either win or you learn,” just as Jalen Hurts said, referring to Nelson Mandela. This instills the idea that through every circumstance, lessons are taught which I can utilize to develop. Overall, It is awesome how all of my hard work has resulted in lifelong memories that I will cherish for the rest of my life!
