What are some of your main goals within the game over the next 5 years?
In the next 5 years, I want to get to the highest level of hockey I possibly can. For this next year, that would be getting selected for a U17 prep team and a U18 prep or AAA team the following year. I want to become a better person and player over time by using the skills I learn from hockey such as teamwork, creativity, knowledge, dedication, hard work, and more. I hope to create new connections and friendships with players and coaches along the way. My goal is to receive a hockey scholarship (NCAA) so that I can get a good education to set me up for future success. I strive to develop as a player and truly master all of the little details of the game.
Why are these your goals? Why are they important to you? What would it mean to achieve them?
These are my goals because hockey is the one sport that I have truly ever enjoyed. It is a passion because of the many gifts that come along with it, and the variety of accomplishments that you can achieve along the way and paths you can pursue within the sport. I think this makes it fun and exciting. These goals are important to me because I have been working towards achieving them my whole life. I believe achieving these goals will support me in succeeding in the future both on and off the ice. Achieving these goals would mean the world to me because it would signify that my hard work and dedication has paid off, resulting in my success.
What separates you as a player and person? What are some areas requiring work? How do you continue to get better?
As a person, I feel like I am very responsible and kind. Other people often refer to me as the “good kid”. I stay out of trouble, choosing to focus on my hockey training and academics. I am even tempered and remain calm under pressure. As a player, I put in a lot of work on and off the ice while also trying to get the best grades I can in school. As a player, I also do the most that I can to better myself in my development, whether that is doing camps, shooting pucks in my garage, taking extra one on one training or working with my coaches to fix small details in my game.
One area where I want to develop is learning how to leverage my height and strength as I move into the next age division playing against equally large players. I believe there is always room to grow my hockey IQ and I will always work on my mental strength as I believe mental strength separates the good players from the great players.
I continue to get better by working with many different coaches on and off the ice such as my regular team coaches, skill coaches, mental coach, my advisor, and myself in my garage tweaking things like my shot, stickhandling, and my faceoffs.
What do you bring to any team you play for? What could a coach expect from you if they selected you for their roster?
I am a hard-working player who will try to lead by example so that I can help raise the caliber of the whole team. I enjoy bringing a physical aspect to my game so that I can create more space and opportunities for goal scoring for not only myself but my teammates. I also like to think of myself as a sniper who can shoot from far out, close in, sharp angles and pick those corners. I am a fast skater who is not afraid to make moves and beat the defensemen to make it to the offensive zone first to create scoring opportunities. I am reliable two-way player that will forecheck and backcheck. I’m not afraid to take a hit or give a hard hit back. A coach can expect me to give 100% effort for every practice or game, to pay close attention to instruction and corrections. I am a coachable player and I like to receive detailed feedback to improve my skills and ultimately help my team win games
What impact are you looking to have in your sports career? (Community, team, success, etc)
I am looking to be an influential player that will inspire younger people in their hockey careers. I want my teammates to know that they can depend on me and trust me. Eventually I would love to build a business that helps hockey players with their performance and skills so that they can become better players too.
What do you believe separates the best players in the world? What attributes/intangibles define them?
I believe that mental strength, including resiliency, a strong mental game and strategic mindset separates the best players. I believe that the better a player is mentally the better they will perform on the ice because they will be able to handle the mental challenges of the game. For example, this might be missing scoring opportunities or not getting ice time. Mental strength prepares a player to face these challenges and be ready to perform at their best when they are called upon.
Favorite thing about the game (on or off ice)?
My favorite thing about hockey is building new friendships and connections with people who can help me better myself in my life. Another thing I like about hockey is the amount of hard work and dedication you have to put in to become a really good player, and also the skills you learn from hockey like teamwork, hard work, etc. Another one of my favorite things in hockey is all the goals that I can set out for myself to achieve and when I achieve them, the amount of satisfaction I get after finally achieving that goal. One more thing that I like about hockey is the amount of excitement and joy it brings to my life when I am doing well.
