What are some of your main goals within the game over the next 5 years?
The ultimate goal I have set for myself is going to an NCAA division 1 school. Some smaller goals I have set as stepping stones to reach that goal are: consistently playing to the best of my ability and using every icetime as a chance to focus on getting better.
Why are these your goals? Why are they important to you? What would it mean to achieve them?
Achieving my ultimate goal would mean everything, it’s been what I wanted for so long and it would be huge to finally achieve it. My other goals are set as good building blocks to help me reach my highest potential and give me the best chances to attend Div 1.
What separates you as a player and person? What are some areas requiring work? How do you continue to get better?
Whenever I’m around the rink I aim to be the most positive and optimistic individual, whether that’s talking to a guy who may be a little down, or cheering the loudest during a game. On the ice my game is built around speed and heads up play making, my speed paired with my hockey IQ allowed me to make the jump to the next level. The biggest thing I’ve battled with is confidence. Coming into the AJHL at 16 was a big jump, I’m still working on truly excelling at this level. I use visualization and mental reminders as a way to keep on track and improve. Either reminding myself of what got me there “move your feet” or telling myself to “just do it”.
What do you bring to any team you play for? What could a coach expect from you if they selected you for their roster?
No matter what, I’m always going to be a good teammate. A hockey team is a family and even if you don’t always get along with your family, you always look out for them. Another thing that I bring to the table is my attention to detail, if you need something done and done with detail, I’m your guy.
What impact are you looking to have in your sports career? (Community, team, success, etc)
During my career I want to be known as the guy that no one wants to play against, I want to be the hardest worker at the frozen 4 and show my work ethic at the university level. I want to inspire other young hockey players and prove that if you want something bad enough, it can be achieved.
What do you believe separates the best players in the world? What attributes/intangibles define them?
If you look at any of the best players in the world they never give any “buts”, they just do it. They don’t need to be asked to or motivated by anyone else, instead they do it for themselves. Their self oriented mindset allows them to achieve anything they put their minds to.
Favorite thing about the game (on or off ice)?
I love the boys and the sense of brotherhood, hanging out at the rink or going for a wing Wednesday at boston pizza’s, everyone does everything together. You have 24 other guys that have your back, just as you have theres.
